The Wood Burner

Independent UK firewood and wood-heat guides.

Latest guides

Heating with wood is simple in theory and fiddly in practice. The kit is confusing, half the advice online is American and wrong for a British stove, and the gap between a warm, clean burn and a smoky, wasteful one comes down to details that nobody explains well.

That is what we are here for. The Wood Burner is an independent UK guide to firewood and wood heat: choosing a log splitter or a stove fan, seasoning logs down to a moisture level that actually burns, storing a winter’s worth of wood, and sorting out the machine when the ram will not return on a cold morning.

Practical, British, and honest

Every guide is written for a UK household burning on a wood-burning or multi-fuel stove. We use British wood species, British weather and the rules you actually have to follow, including burning only Ready to Burn or properly seasoned logs. No spec-sheet copy, no filler, and no pretending a 20 tonne splitter belongs in a suburban garden.

When we recommend something we tell you who it suits and where it falls short. Some links are affiliate links that never change what we suggest or what you pay. Start with the guides below.
